Minor programme in EEB

A new undergraduate minor programme in Ecology, Evolution, and Behaviour at GITAM University

We at GITAM University (Visakhapatnam campus) are thrilled to announce the launch of a Minor in Ecology, Evolution and Behaviour (EEB), a forward-looking program for undergraduate students starting from the academic year 2025–26.

This interdisciplinary program explores the science of how organisms interact with each other and their environment, how they adapt and evolve, and how behaviour shapes survival and reproduction.

Designed for students passionate about the natural world, this minor provides strong conceptual foundations, hands-on experiences, and exposure to current research at the interface of biology, environment, and behaviour.

Open to undergraduates across disciplines of sciences and technology at GITAM (Visakhapatnam campus), the EEB minor is among the very few of its kind in India, offering a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of life’s complexity and connect with a growing global community of ecologists and evolutionary biologists.

This flexible program spans three years (24 credits) or an extended four-year track (32 credits), beginning in December 2025. Admissions at GITAM University are currently open. If you have any questions or would like to know more, please fill out this form or scan the QR code below.

Meet the instructors

Harish Prakash uses natural history observations to frame his research questions. His focus is on understanding animal decision-making in a rapidly-changing world and seeking conservation solutions for the crisis.
Aparna Lajmi is an evolutionary biologist interested in uncovering patterns of genetic and trait variation across both macro- and micro-evolutionary scales, grounded in an ecological context.
Viraj R. Torsekar is an ecologist interested in how animals manage risk of predation and the consequences of their defence responses on mating patterns, evolutionary processes, and ecosystem function.
